Warning to network marketers… new twist on old scam
Wednesday, December 12th, 2007I really hate to have to make this post, but feel it is necessary.
With Web 2.0 techniques, you expose yourself to some real idiots in the world. As you go around posting at forums, participating in Social Communities, there are folks out there who would just as soon take advantage of you.
Last night, I received a voice mail (land line that I monitor) from a fellow who said he’d been to my BookWise site after visiting a forum. I returned his call, only to discover he wouldn’t accept a call from a restricted phone number (our personal number is unpublished).
I borrowed a cell phone and called his number. Now, this was shortly after 8pm my time… and I got his office voice mail… strange indeed. I explained in my message that I would like him to call me once again at the number provided on my site.
About 15 minutes later, I got a call on the cell phone… from him. I once again asked him to return his call on the other number… so far, I’m still waiting.
In the meantime, I did a little digging… it’s really easy to simply list a phone number at Google and get all kinds of information.
The individual’s name is Mike Bromell, and he sometimes goes by Bob Morgan. His phone number is 512-291-6875.
The reason I’m listing it is because I found considerable evidence of poor business practices.
Here’s the scam…
This individual cruises forums and then visits sites to harvest information. He then places calls under the pretense that he is interested in your opportunity.
His REAL reason for calling is to attempt to sell you his services… supposedly he writes press releases for about $120 a piece.
Now, he claims to be a “heavy hitter” in the industry, and makes a huge income… I have to question… why would he be cruising forums and harvesting information?
Oh, and according to at least one forum thread at the WAHM forum, he seems to be rather rudeĀ and even foul-mouthed.
What should you do if you get a call from him? Simply tell him nicely you’re not interested in his services (unless you really do want his services). If he persists, report him to the proper authorities in Austin (Round Rock) Texas.
Oh, and press releases are something you really should write yourself. There are all kinds of free templates to use.
